Keeping something private means sharing it only with people you know and trust.

- where you go to school or after school
- where your parents work
Rules and Tips for Creating a Username
- Ask a parent or a trusted adult before you create a username
- Never include any private information in your username.
- Avoid symbols or spaces. They are usually not allowed in usernames.
- Create a username that means something to you. For example, you could include the name of your pet, toy etc
- If someone already has the username you want, try adding numbers to make it your own.
- Keep track of your usernames and passwords. With the help of a parent, you can write them down and keep them in a safe place.

Online passwords are similar to combinations for a lock. A password is a secret combination of letters and numbers that only you know. Passwords help protect your information online.

You can go to exciting places online, but you need to follow certain rules to remain safe. Staying safe online is the same as staying safe in the real world.

The WEBSITE TRAFFIC LIGHT - use the idea of a traffic light to help choose sites that are right for you.

- Fun, with things things to do and see

- A site that you are not sure is right for you
- One that asks for information such as who you are, where you live, your phone number or email address, etc
- A place where you are allowed to communicate freely with others
- 'CAUTION' - before you go to a site you think is orange, get permission from an adult you trust.

RED - STOP! - A "red" site is:
- A site that is not right for you
- A place where you have gone by accident
- Filled with things that are for older kids or adults
- 'STOP' - avoid a site that you think is red. If you are unsure, ask a trusted adult.

People can connect with one another through the internet. The internet connects billions of people using computers, phones, or other devices and allows them to communicate with each other. The internet is not a real place that you can actually visit but does allow real people to connect with one another even when they are not in the same place.
